Homeowner Highlight: Sheila’s Advice for Style and Function

If anyone knows the value of this, it’s Sheila, who has undergone the process of building a new construction home six times! In this Homeowner Highlight, Sheila talks about her experience modifying her home plan to accommodate her elderly mother – and offers invaluable advice to homebuyers who are building new for the first time.

When did you move into your home? 

October 24, 2024.

What home plan do you have? 

The Channing at Preservation Lakes

How did you incorporate your family’s lifestyle into your home? 

This is my second new construction home with Eastbrook and my sixth new construction home overall. Being able to “customize” the interior was a top priority. The Home Creation Studio provides an amazing array of upgrade selections. I needed modifications to accommodate my elderly mother.

What is your decorating inspiration? 

Modern Transitional. I love the crisp contrast of black and white with gray accents and mixed metal decor accessories.

What do you love about your Eastbrook community? 

Preservation Lakes – Beautiful landscaping and pride of ownership is apparent throughout the community.

What are your favorite features in your home? 

The kitchen design with the island overhang extensions at both ends that accommodate 2 additional stools when needed, the see-through (double-sided) fireplace between Gathering Room and Michigan Room, and the dining area, which is used for my baby grand. A hallway closet stackable laundry combo was utilized to retain the guest powder room. Plus, we have two ensuite bathrooms: a 3/4 in the primary and 1/2 in the second bedroom for my elderly mother.

What was your building process /Eastbrook experience like? 

My experiences were very good. The process and communication throughout were excellent.

What does “home” mean to you? 

“Home” is a top priority. Aesthetics, functionality and comfort. 

Do you have any tips or tricks for new homeowners? 

Yes: Determine your theme colors, and then focus on cabinetry and flooring. Then, visualize your daily routines and think about the features you want, such as fireplaces, hardware, lighting, accent walls, etc. 

Any other thoughts you would like to add? 

Kudos to Jeff Costello for directing me to Preservation Lakes and to Jessica Balder for an outstanding realtor experience. Also, to Matt Heitz & Amanda at the Home Creation Studio for going above and beyond to get the range hood, flooring and doors I wanted, in addition to modifying the laundry room so my elderly mother could have a 1/2 bath with her bedroom. Austin Ford was a great supervisor, Nat Scott’s efficient and friendly Customer Service work, plus Ron Moore’s excellent follow-up with Warranty work.
