Homeowner Highlight with Brandy and Kenny, Founders of Michigan Nature Co.

Your home should be your sanctuary – where you rest at the end of the day and reconnect with your loved ones. At Eastbrook Homes, we believe in designing spaces that make the transition from the daily grind to the nightly unwind seamless. Whether your perfect home brings the outdoors in with large, light-drenching windows, or just provides that quiet, peaceful place to sip your morning coffee, we help Michigan homeowners of all walks build their dreams.
Sometimes, we even have the privilege of building homes for local businesses in our community. Brandy and Kenny are the founders and owners of Michigan Nature Co., a boutique in Rockford that’s brimming with gorgeous nature-inspired products, from their small-batch bath and body line to their proudly Michigan apparel and home goods.
In this case, we are incredibly excited to announce that we’ll be partnering with Michigan Nature Co.! All Eastbrook homeowners will receive a personalized gift from Brandy & Kenny’s beloved store at their 1-year move-in anniversary.
To learn more about Michigan Nature Co., we encourage you to stop by and browse their shelves, or window shop virtually online. See what they’re up to by following their Instagram and Facebook accounts, linked below.
Their vision for this build very much called upon their passion for nature and love of Scandinavian design. Read on to learn how they brought their brand – the feeling of Michigan – into their home.
When did you move into your home?
We moved in October of 2022 … and somehow, it feels like both yesterday and forever ago. Time moves differently when you’re in a space that is really special.
What home plan do you have?
We chose the Sebastian Plan. The two-story entrance and living room immediately won us over. It feels open, welcoming, and dramatic in all the best ways.
How did you incorporate your family’s lifestyle into your home?
Our world is fast-paced, full of movement and priorities, so we designed our home to be the opposite — a place that slows us down and recenters us. The open spaces make it easy to connect as a family, while cozy corners create room for simple rituals and time together, like board games with the kids. The Michigan room has become our gathering spot, almost like an indoor-outdoor retreat, where the trees outside frame every season. We’ve also extended our living space intentionally outdoors, creating areas for gathering, relaxing, and simply being surrounded by nature, so that our home feels connected inside and out.
What is your decorating inspiration?
Our inspiration is rooted in Scandinavian design with clean lines, calming simplicity, and that sense of airy minimalism that creates peace the second you walk in. But we didn’t want it to feel too predictable. So, we layered in unexpected elements – bold black accents, edgy textures, and organic details that echo the woods right outside our windows. It’s very much the ethos of our brand & store, Michigan Nature Co.: nature-inspired, but elevated with character and contrast. Every choice was about creating a space that feels modern, grounded, and just a little surprising and unique.
What do you love about your Eastbrook community?
We were the third home in the development, so watching it grow has been really fun. Rockford itself is such a gem, and being right off the White Pine Trail is magical and makes us feel connected to the town and nature at the same time. It’s community without giving up peace and privacy, which is rare.
What are your favorite features in your home?
The Michigan room is the heart of it all – morning coffee, evening cocktails, family game nights, all framed by windows overlooking the woods. It’s like living in a treehouse, but with central air and heating. And our extended fireplace with hexagon tile. It’s become the cozy anchor for all seasons.
What was your building process / Eastbrook experience like?
Honestly, a dream. I came in with mood boards and a clear vision, and the team brought it to life. Choosing from tiny swatches can be overwhelming but having the option to tour other homes and so many selections set up at the Home Creation Studio made it exciting instead of stressful.
What does “home” mean to you?
Home is where the world slows down. It’s where peace and personality meet. A place that reflects who we are and how we want to live.
Do you have any tips or tricks for new homeowners?
Come in with a vision, but stay flexible. There are always ways to accomplish what you are going for. Bring mood boards, Pinterest saves, or even scraps of fabric as it helps the team see your style. And don’t be afraid to take risks with finishes or features you love. Those end up being the things that make your home feel truly yours. Remember you are building this home for YOU! Do what you love!
Any other thoughts you would like to add?
We feel really lucky to have found this spot at the perfect time. The process was creative and collaborative, and now we get to live in a space that feels like it was built just for us.
At Eastbrook Homes, it all starts with community. We don’t just build houses in Michigan, we support local causes and forge connections with local businesses. Building up our community keeps our cities – and the families who shape them – strong.
