Three years after her husband passed away, Pamela Kamstra was ready for a new chapter. And moving to a new home near the lakeshore seemed like a good first step.

Yet, the existing houses on the market just didn’t look or feel quite right. 

Then, Kamstra’s Realtor pointed her toward a new build in Macatawa Legends, an Eastbrook Homes community in Holland. As soon as she walked into a Move-In Ready home that was under construction, she fell in love.

“I knew right away that’s what I wanted,” Kamstra said. “I wanted some natural light, an open floor plan, a sunroom and sun deck. It had everything.”

Less than a decade ago, Kamstra built a custom, 4-bedroom home on two acres near Hudsonville, picking everything out from scratch. When she decided to downsize into the Move-In Ready, 2-bedroom Macatawa Legends condo, the paint colors were already chosen. Ditto for everything else, from the countertops and backsplash to the cabinets and lighting fixtures.

Kamstra was totally fine with that because it was all so beautiful. All she had to do was wait and watch as her new home came together.

“I was much more relaxed (than the last time I built a home), having everything picked out,” Kamstra said. “It was a fun process. Often, I would come here to walk through to see the changes that were happening.”

“We were exploring condo options, and we happened to have one under construction at the time,” said Lindsay Smith, a sales agent at Macatawa Legends. “We walked over there, and she just was in absolute awe. She was completely smitten with the entire condo.

“It’s so exciting to see the expression on a customer’s face the first time they walk through the home.”

Living in an Eastbrook Community

As beautiful as the quiet, rural setting of her previous property near Hudsonville was, Kamstra already loves life at Macatawa Legends. Aside from her stunning condo, the resort-like community also has great-looking townhomes, courtyard homes and single-family homes – all with different architectural features that make each street interesting. In fact, a phase of 40 new home sites is now open, with some lots backing right up to a championship golf course.

In addition to golf, amenities at Macatawa Legends include a multi-use clubhouse, three swimming pools, a fitness center, sport courts for tennis, pickleball and basketball, playgrounds for kids and multiple restaurants. 

“Macatawa Legends is a very active community with people out walking all the time and a lot of friendly faces,” Smith said. “Pam was looking for a sense of belonging, and with her low-maintenance condo she can spend more time hanging out with neighbors or friends and family enjoying all the things that Macatawa Legends and the Holland community have to offer.”

Kamstra likes being close to Lake Michigan beaches, the charming shops and restaurants in downtown Holland, and a summer trailer that she keeps at a nearby campground. And she loves coming home to her condo at Macatawa Legends, with a Michigan sunroom overlooking a beautiful new lawn (that she doesn’t have to mow), and an open greenspace with a lovely view of trees. 

The sunroom is Kamstra’s favorite room in the house, a relaxing spot for her to sit and read in the afternoon or evening – at least, when she’s not busy doing something else. Her neighbors have all been warm and inviting, and many of them like to drive around the community in golf carts. She has even ordered one for herself to join them this spring and summer.

“I’m a person that doesn’t fear changing direction when inspiration hits,” Kamstra said. “I just feel like I jumped in with both feet. The doors were opened, and I kind of felt led here.

“I’m not only thankful for my new condo, but I’m thankful for creating new memories.”
