Meeting Karli and Spencer
Karli and Spencer are excited for the opportunity to completely personalize their home this time around with Eastbrook Homes. With the memories of lengthy and time-consuming renovations living rent-free in their minds, the couple is firm on not wanting to do that again! After deciding to build new, the next question was where? Although they loved being near family in Byron Center and initially considered our Walnut Ridge community, their frequent trips to the lakeshore influenced their decision to ultimately choose Emerald Springs in Allendale. Emerald Springs is a great central location between the sought-after lakeshore and Grand Rapids, while offering an excellent school district and beautiful natural scenery. A great choice!
Building new with Eastbrook Homes gives Karli and Spencer a lot of freedom to ensure this home is exactly what they need. They’ve already begun making what will prove to be an abundance of choices by the end of this process, but they’re not intimidated! Being expertly led through each step by the Eastbrook team takes a lot of stress out of the equation. In this stage of choosing a lot, their Eastbrook realtor Natalie Rowlader helped the couple narrow down options by discussing their lifestyle. Since Karli and Spencer need a fenced yard for their two adorable rescue dogs, Natalie showed them two gorgeous wooded corner lots, and they immediately chose lot 6 – the bigger of the two. With the lot nailed down, it’s time to meet with more Eastbrook experts to start the exciting design process! Follow along to see what they choose next!

Choosing A Floor Plan
With their location confirmed, it’s time for Karli and Spencer to decide on a floor plan that fits every aspect of their life and future. As second-time Eastbrook Homes buyers, they come into this with an idea of what they like in the Stockton plan they have now – and what they’d like to change.
The young couple needs a home that will grow with them as their life changes, whether that means adding to their family or welcoming aging parents. They love that the Stockton has easy outside access for their two dogs, but wonder if they can add more space. Fortunately, Eastbrook Homes Sales Agent Natalie Rowlader confirms the Stockton floor plan has the option to add a Michigan Room either off the dining room or the living room, based on their needs. All of Eastbrook’s floor plans can be easily modified or upgraded to suit the needs of our buyers. Karli and Spencer expressed their need for more storage space and an upgraded pantry, and were happy to hear these can all be accommodated. To explore more home plans and modification options, they jumped into the Eastbrook website to play with the interactive floor plan feature, which also allows you to model any structural changes you may want. In the end, the Stockton still has their hearts (with a few upgrades!). Stay tuned to see what modifications are chosen next when the couple visits the Home Creation Studio.

Visiting the Home Creation Studio
Our homeowners Karli and Spencer have made some big decisions so far, from choosing the right community to finding the perfect lot for their dogs and growing family. But the next decision might be the biggest of all: Selecting the interior and exterior color palettes and design finishes for their new Eastbrook home. Coming from a previous Stockton, the couple already has a good idea of what they want – more space and functionality – and ideas on how to achieve it. Pocket doors, kitchen cabinets to the ceiling and an additional 200 sq ft sunroom are a few. But the real fun happens in the 4,000 sq ft Home Creation Studio. And, Eastbrook Homes Interior Designer Megan Mansfield is here to help.
Megan prepares for the meeting by narrowing down the overwhelming choices and making appropriate recommendations for the couple’s lifestyle, guided by the design questionnaire she sent them in advance. Ideas flowed during this creative collaboration, from how to break up an all-white kitchen by playing with cabinet colors and accents to ensuring the floors will hold up well to their dogs. Now, it’s time to break ground on this perfect plan. Follow along as we watch Karli and Spencer bring their dream home to life!

Exciting Progress at the Build Site
It may not look like much yet, but Karli and Spencer are thrilled to see the hole dug for the foundation of their new home after weeks of anticipation. Their beautiful lot at Emerald Springs in Allendale, MI, is beginning to transform into their vision of “home sweet home.” Construction Manager Steven Velthuis, who is overseeing the development of Emerald Springs, walked the couple through the process. Steve will be their point of contact throughout the build, working closely with them to ensure every detail meets their expectations.
For Karli, the whole process is starting to feel much more real now that she can see exactly where her new home will be. Meanwhile, Spencer is eyeing up a different detail – an extra-long driveway. Seeing how far away from the neighbors and the street they’ll be, against the beautiful wooded lot, is exciting. They’re both looking forward to enjoying more privacy in this new Stockton home plan. And of course, both are imagining all the space their two rescue dogs will have to roam. This project is really starting to take off! Follow along as concrete is poured and the home they’ve imagined begins to take shape.

Pressing On Through Weather Delays
While Michigan weather may have delayed progress on Karli and Spencer’s Stockton dream home, the determination hasn’t been deterred. Construction Manager Steve Velthuis and the team know how to work during even the coldest weather to keep things moving at the build site in Allendale. Working backwards to frame the house first and then do the undergrounds protects the agreed-upon timeline. With more than 50 years experience building homes in Michigan, this is far from the Eastbrook team’s first rodeo, and they’re well equipped with strategies that work year-round. One way Steve keeps things moving is by planning for the materials to arrive before the framers.
Meanwhile, the Stockton model home is nearing completion, giving Karli and Spencer a chance to compare the finishes in the model with their own selections. The floor plan is the same, but the house itself feels completely different. With so many modification opportunities – from the flooring to the number of closets and adding a Michigan room – no two Eastbrook houses look the same. The couple is confident they made all the right design choices, and they’re excited to walk through their own home soon. Stay tuned to watch this home they’ve envisioned begin to take shape.

Their Emerald Springs Home Is Coming To Life
Karli and Spencer are excited to see their new Stockton come to life on the lot in Allendale, next to their gorgeous tree-lined backyard. There’s been a lot of progress made since their last visit: The framing and trim is up, the roof is on, and Construction Manager Steve Velthuis confirms the team has started the mechanical stage. Watching as their design choices are executed reaffirms the couple’s decisions. They love their big picture windows and more modern features, like the black windows, front door, straight beams, and more clean lines on the exterior. The 4-foot bump added to the garage will be the perfect storage place for Spencer’s tools. And the office space will also house a murphy bed, doubling as a cozy guest room for overnight visitors.
The modifications don’t end there – from changes to the kitchen pantry, first floor full bath, 9-foot ceilings upstairs and more, Karli and Spencer truly designed a unique home that fits their lifestyle perfectly. And they’ve loved watching it come together, whether by visiting the site or via their real-time video stream they can check anytime, anywhere. It’s another way Eastbrook takes the stress out of crafting your dream home. After this visit, Karli and Spencer left with a new dream in mind: opening the large casement windows in their bedroom to soak in the serene view of the towering sycamore tree. Follow along as we watch more of their Emerald Springs home take shape!

Drywall Helps Their Dream Home Take Shape
At this exciting site inspection, our Eastbrook couple Karli and Spencer walk through their Stockton home in Emerald Springs, admiring the progress. The front porch is poured, and with the black-and-white window trim as the backdrop, they can start to see the personality of their modern design style. Now that the drywall is up, the couple can really feel the size and flow of their new home. They’re thrilled with the additional space. The extra foot added to the ceiling height allows for more storage in the garage and larger windows where it counts.
Karli and Spencer chose to build new with Eastbrook Homes again because of how easy it is to thoughtfully personalize every detail of their new construction home. Some pet-friendly design choices include adding a dog wash to their basement and getting approval for a privacy fence in the back yard. The dogs aren’t the only ones being pampered – our couple also added a mini bar area with an additional electrical package to the kitchen. This home is almost ready to be filled with life, laughter and core memories as they unpack their future in Allendale. But first, they’ll need some paint on the walls. Follow along with Karli and Spencer’s home-building journey to see how it all comes together!

Move-In Day is Almost Here!
Karli and Spencer had an exciting construction inspection at their Emerald Springs home site, where the exterior of their dream home is finally complete. With the concrete finished and land graded, they can picture some of the outdoor spaces they’ll soon be enjoying with future guests. The inside has also made some great progress. The trim is up, and the first coat of paint has been rolled or sprayed on. But what stands out to them is the huge, beautiful windows letting in beams of sunshine across their enlarged kitchen island.
Karli and Spencer lived in a Stockton home plan previously, so they knew what modifications to make in their new Eastbrook home. Upsizing the island was just the beginning: The additional storage under the island, larger windows, wet bar, and real wood shelving in the owner’s suite bedroom closet are a few of the other features they’re excited about. The flexibility of design and being able to create a space that truly fits their life is one of the big reasons they chose to build with Eastbrook Homes again. Move-in day is getting closer, but they’ll have to wait a little while longer before sending the housewarming party invites. Don’t miss the exciting next stage in the process!

A Walkthrough With Sales Agent Natalie Rowlader
Karli and Spencer are seeing all the amazing progress in their new Emerald Springs home – and all their choices coming to life. Notably, the gorgeous greige backsplash they chose to pull in the gray veining in the Quartz countertops. Everything is coming together even better than they pictured. They had the foresight to hide the outlets under the countertops with a plug track and add extra outlets in the pantry for small appliances and charging stations. This choice allows for more free space on their counter tops, accentuating the kitchen as not just a functional space, but a beautiful one.
One of the many reasons Karli and Spencer returned to Eastbrook Homes to build another Stockton (this time more personalized), is because of the customer service. This time around, the experience was even more seamless with the new Eastbrook App. There, they’ve been able to keep all their documents, emails, and texts organized in one place. They also love receiving detailed video updates from Sales Agent Natalie Rowlader showing weekly progress. The app even lets them easily and quickly communicate with every team member they’ve worked with throughout the process. No wonder their home is turning out exactly as they planned. Follow along with us as the couple explores their second floor progress next time!

Construction Manager Velthuis Reveals Some Surprises
Construction Manager Steve Velthuis is ready to show Karli and Spencer a few finishing touches they didn’t see last visit. From final paint touches to the super-soft upgraded carpeting, their new Stockton is starting to feel move-in ready. The couple can picture cooking dinner under the freshly-installed oven hood, which “ties the whole kitchen together,” says Karli. The additional shoe and coat storage is exactly what they wanted, and their modern black hardware choices pop stylishly against the white. Upstairs, they finally get to see the upgrades they chose in the Home Creation Studio come to life. The barn door to their bathroom perfectly captures their personality, and behind it, the bathroom tiles look gorgeous.
Coming from a previous Eastbrook Homes property, Karli and Spencer knew they would have plenty of flexibility when designing their new Allendale home. Together with their design team, they were able to add additional space where needed and make other style and storage upgrades to match their lifestyle. Now, seeing it all come together, they’re so happy with the choices they made months ago. “Having you [Velthuis] to guide us through it and Eastbrook’s expertise was super helpful to kind of make everything perfect for when we move in,” Karli said. Check back again next time to see the beautiful new kitchen appliances installed in their freshly cleaned and polished home.

Gerrit’s Appliance Pays an Exciting Visit
When you choose Eastbrook, you also choose all our preferred partners, ensuring a smooth process and quality throughout the build. In this episode, Karli and Spencer are very happy with our local partner Gerrit’s Appliance and the products and services they provide. From their 40,000-square-foot showroom on 29th Street in Kentwood, Gerrit’s offers no shortage of choice. Karli and Spencer selected a spacious pocket-handle refrigerator, banishing fingerprints and welcoming entertaining. Of course, Karli’s double oven will also come in handy for all the hosting in their future. The couple also chose to upgrade their range hood to the top model with dishwasher-safe filters to ensure easy cleanup after the guests have gone.
When it comes to personalizing your home, the Eastbrook team helps you think of everything to make life easier. Karli and Spencer designed their new home to have a washer and dryer upstairs for convenience. Being just outside the primary bedroom, they needed a model that was quiet and reliable, and that’s what they chose from Gerrit’s. They also knew they wanted their home to be dog-friendly. So, they designed it to hold another compact-sized washer and dryer downstairs to help wash their dog’s bedding more easily. Stay tuned to see how the rest of their thoughtful design choices shape their dream home!

Welcome Home!
Karli and Spencer’s Emerald Springs home is finally complete! In this episode, the excited couple walks through their new home with Area Manager Joe Gavitt to go over how systems work and should be cared for. Joe reviews how to take care of each home feature from the quartz countertops, to the stainless steel appliances, to the composite deck. Eastbrook provides a touch-up paint kit in the kitchen for little dings in the cabinetry – which will surely happen as this new house feels more and more like home.
One of the reasons Karli and Spencer chose to build with Eastbrook a second time is because of the comprehensive customer service provided. After the move-in process is completed, it’s time for the 30-day paint touch-up appointment. During this visit, Eastbrook’s painting team will spend up to two hours with the couple to touch up any scuffs or scrapes that came from getting settled. At the 90-day mark, they’ll meet for a warranty appointment and then again at the 11-month mark. In-between these dates, Eastbrooks encourages them to reach out to the customer care team immediately regarding any emergencies. After all the waiting, it’s finally time for Karli and Spencer (and the dogs!) to call their new Stockton of Allendale, “home sweet home.” All that’s left to do now is finalize closing and call the movers!
