Taste and Tour Nonprofit Highlights: Part 4
Taste & Tour Nonprofit Highlights: Part 4
As we ease our way into fall, we are having a great time with good food and drink celebrating our 50th Anniversary. It takes a community to make a company great. We’re continuing our Anniversary celebrations and raising money with our Taste & Tour events. Giving back is always a wonderfully gratifying thing to do, and so many people are stepping up and donating to these great causes instead.
Just a reminder, we double every dollar that you spend on donations to our partner nonprofits. Every dollar you give during the Taste & Tour, we give the same amount. This is a great way maximize your philanthropic impact in the community. This is also an unusual opportunity to engage with people and programs that are working to make our community a better place.
Susan G. Komen
Breast cancer affects everybody, as friends and family provide support to those going through Chemo and Radiation. In 1982, Nancy G. Bringker, the Founder of the Susan G. Komen, started the foundation after her sister passed away after battling breast cancer. Since then, the foundation has raised more than $2.9 billion for research, often using community races as a fundraising tool. The West Michigan 2017 Komen West Michigan Race for the Cure has raised $105,107.35, with a goal of $100,000, but there is need for more support. These races help people form teams, raise money, and stay active. Your support during the Taste & Tour events fund multiple fronts such as research, community health, global outreach and public policy initiatives in order to make the biggest impact against this disease.
TCM Counseling
Working tirelessly to promote good mental health and make resources available to give people help and hope, TCM Counseling is celebrating 40 years of service to the Tri-cities area of Grand Haven, Spring Lake, and Ferrysburg. With 45 therapists, TCM Counseling works to make sure that nobody is turned away, and they offer specialized help for whatever is required.
Good mental health can sometimes mean therapy, or may simply require lifestyle adjustments like longer nighttime sleep or regular exercise. TCM Counseling offers help to adults, children, teenagers, and families, working with patients on their individual terms. Supporting their work during the Taste & Tour events will positively influence the lives of many people in an area that is often unrecognized and unsupported.
Kids’ Food Basket
Shockingly enough, 1 in 5 kids in Michigan experience hunger. Kids Food Basket responds to this crisis with Sack Suppers. Packaged by volunteers, the Sack Suppers are distributed within classrooms or at local parks, meaning every child who needs a meal can get one easily and safely. Also, the Sack Suppers provide a wonderful opportunity for volunteering. Their work is driven by the love and support of the West Michigan community, with nearly 250 volunteers packing and delivering Sack Suppers five days a week. Many more volunteers lead juice box drives, snack drives, and fund drives. Your donation during the Taste & Tour events ensures even more children have a meal when it’s needed.
Safe Haven Ministries
Domestic abuse is a problem that is often hidden from view, but tears apart families and leaves lasting harm. Safe Haven Ministries has been helping since 1990. They provide a confidential emergency shelter, domestic abuse support groups, individual support from their advocates, safety planning to help avoid dangerous situations, children’s programming, and a 24/7 hotline that is free and confidential to help anybody who is at risk.
Safe Haven Ministries empowers women, works on prevention through education, and helps women address issues of faith and their intersection with domestic abuse.
Let’s continue the turnout and support for these important community nonprofits at the Taste & Tour events! For more information on the events, including prizes, food and drink, check out the website and join the Facebook event for more updates.
