Taste & Tour Nonprofit Highlights: Part 1

If you have not yet heard the news, we are celebrating our 50^th anniversary in a big way! Our Taste & Tour 50^th Anniversary Celebration is set to take place at 16 locations across West Michigan from September 21-24.

These free events will feature delicious food and drinks from local bars and restaurants, as well as a range of prizes to win that have all been donated by community partners. One of the things we are most looking forward to is using the events to help raise money for 16 different non-profit organizations that help meet the needs of families and children throughout our region. We are hoping to raise $80,000 for these organizations by collecting donations instead of charging you to attend. We’ll double your impact by matching every dollar that is donated! Over the coming weeks we look forward to sharing more information about the nonprofits you can help.

Women’s Resource Center

Based in Grand Rapids, Women’s Resource Center has a range of programs focused on helping women discover their strengths and talents while overcoming barriers to employment and economic independence. Among a wide range of programs they host regular classes on technology and skills for success, provide professional attire for interviews and work, and help with resume and cover letter preparation. They are a great organization helping low-income single mothers as well as those that are unemployed and underemployed.

ICCF

Since 1974, ICCF has been helping Grand Rapids families gain access to housing. They provide emergency housing and provide access to low-cost homes whether rented or purchased. They also host educational classes to help people prepare for homeownership both financially and with basic homeowner skills. They utilize a lot of volunteers to make these services possible and help achieve their mission of providing housing opportunities and services that encourage family responsibility and independence.

STVCC

They are dedicated to human services in the mid-Michigan area, partnering with children, families and adults living in crisis to help them find hope and safety so they can transform their lives- and they’ve been doing this since 1948! Their services include helping people with adoption and foster care, relationship coaching to prevent divorce, and immigration law services. Further, they host a range of counseling services and run a Children’s Home that serves as a comprehensive healing and case planning center for children who are victims of abuse.

Home Repair Services

Serving all of Kent County, Home Repair Services focuses on strengthening vulnerable homeowners, because strong homeowners build strong communities. Whereas other organizations work to get people into homes, Home Repair Services has a range of programs focused on helping people stay in their homes. They provide emergency repairs at a sliding scale cost for low-income residents as well as financial coaching services for those worried about or going through foreclosure. A wide range of classes focus on home maintenance and financial matters, equipping homeowners with the skills and knowledge they need to remain in their homes.
