Best Of Spring: Inside Our Award-Winning Peninsula Home

An Eastbrook home is marked by more than just a sturdy structure and gorgeous design details, though of course, these are very much part of our process. One of the things that sets our homes apart is our ability to personalize the entire home. Part of this is making our houses look and feel like Michigan, from the land that surrounds us to the personalities of the customers we build for.
That’s why we’re excited to announce that Cosmopolitan Home Magazine has chosen our Peninsula Home in Tannery Bay as the Best of Spring winner. This project is a representation of our values as a company, and our strive to build quality homes. We are honored to accept the title and are proud to share a little more about the thought that went into both the layout and design of this one-of-a-kind home.
Designed for the Location
At Eastbrook Homes, we care about preserving natural beauty. To this end, we clear as minimally as possible, preserving trees, water features, and designing our communities around them.
“In all of our communities, we literally walk the land before buying it. We study the site’s characteristics and find ways to build what the land tries to give us,” said Mick McGraw, Eastbrook’s CEO.
This way of thinking about each community we build respects the land and makes each of our communities fit seamlessly into its location. Just as we’ve done for our communities, we thoughtfully designed the Peninsula Home to reflect the area surrounding it.
“This plan is very specific to the location, yet it looks like it always should’ve been there. It fits the land,” said Mick.
Senior Director of the Home Creation Studio and Customer Experience, Ann Wierengo, designed this home to showcase the surrounding waters. Each room invites the outdoors in, with huge, spanning windows and 360 views of the watercolor sunsets.
An Elevated Floorplan
Designing a home starts from the ground up, with thoughtful planning in the floorplan. To capture the best views of White Lake from every angle inside our Peninsula Home, it was built with a unique layout.
“It’s really an ‘upside down house,’” explained Mick, “with bedrooms and an office on the lower level and the living space upstairs. It’s like living on a boat. You can look from one end of the house to the other and see 360-degree water views.”
With views this spectacular, it just made the most sense to prioritize the spaces where future homeowners will spend the most time. The kitchen, dining area, and great room offer a spectacular view of the lake while capturing the most natural light.
The lower level is reserved for a more private, quiet retreat, with bedrooms and an office still tucked away from the main living areas. This unique layout is just another way Eastbrook “wows” buyers with its intentionality.
Timeless, Thoughtful Details
Every corner of this home reflects hours of careful planning and thoughtfulness. From the exterior design that unites a traditional coastal look with a mid-century modern flair to the interior paint colors, the details in this home tell a story.
“We wanted to create a design that was functional and visual and lightly neutral that had a ‘wow’ factor,” said Ann.
The interior design plays with light and dark hues and uses natural wood elements to create a relaxed, breezy effect while maintaining an undertone of sophistication. Ann calls her inspiration “Mid-Century Modern Lakehouse.” Soft white interior walls reflect the radiant colors of each sunset, creating their own ever-changing artwork, while darker trims and fixtures serve as its framing.
Like every Eastbrook home, the Peninsula Home was built to be stylish and functional, with thoughtful details showing up in how the space is used. Take the office, for example, which includes a convenient Murphy bed for overnight guests or the option to convert this space into a bedroom as life changes. The open-concept living room and kitchen allow for life to flow easily from hour to hour and make entertaining simple.
And if any home should have one of our signature Michigan Rooms, this is it. Our Michigan Rooms are a wonderful way for any of our homes to enjoy the outdoors all year-round, especially with scenes as breathtaking as these. Our homeowners often enjoy these additional spaces as little fortresses of solitude. They’re the perfect spot for cozy morning coffees or evenings spent with a good book.
A Home Worth Celebrating
At Eastbrook Homes, we believe in doing things the right way. That means building homes that our customers are thrilled to live in, and being a company they’re thrilled to do business with. We’re proud to be a Michigan builder, and we’re proud of the process we’ve fine-tuned over the years that raises the bar in home building. Every design we create with our customers is embedded with thoughtfulness, style, and the kind of effortless functionality everyone deserves in their home.
