With that in mind, we bring you our latest Homeowner Highlight featuring Gail and Valerie, best friends who bought Channing floorplan condos next to each other in our Placid Waters community.
Gail and her husband moved into their new home in August 2018, shortly after Valerie – her best friend of 50 years, purchased the same model right next door.
Valerie and her husband purchased their new home in June of 2018, shortly before her friend of 50 years, Gail, and her husband moved into their own Channing condo one month later.
Let’s hear from Valerie now.
EBH: When did you move into your home?
V: June 2018
EBH: What home plan do you have?
EBH: What is your decorating inspiration?
V: Beachy, relaxed and casual
EBH: What are your favorite features in your home?
V: The Michigan sunroom for sure, it feels so great with all the windows letting in the morning sun. The beauty of the outdoors being invited inside is fabulous.
EBH: What was your building process and Eastbrook experience like?
V: Easy for the most part. The design center was very helpful, especially with our incredible personal designer who walked us through our design meeting and made our entire home come to life. Having all the samples in one place it made it simple to make our choices for our design scheme too. There was, as always, a few stressful points in the process where we needed to be reassured that this was all going to just fine. Overall, we were very happy with the process.
EBH: Do you have any tips or tricks for new homeowners?
V: Get to know your neighbors, they are a wealth of knowledge which is only a doorbell away. They know all about your new community, can share ideas for decorating and let you know any bumps in the roads you may encounter. Besides all that, you will make new friends.
EBH: Any other thoughts you would like to add?
V: We were totally blessed to build a condo next door to my best friend of over 50 years and her husband. This has been an awesome adventure and we couldn’t have even dreamed of something this cool.

EBH: When did you move into your home?
G: August 2018
EBH: What is your decorating inspiration?
G: My decorating inspiration is really “life.” I like to incorporate pieces of art from family members as well as items we have gathered from travel. We have precious memories attached to art that my Dad, Mother-in-law, and even our grandchildren have made.
We also have family living in Japan, so gifts and items we choose when visiting are now part of our decor. Family heirlooms and retro type items help to bring honor to days gone by, and memories we want to retain so they are front and center in our eclectic decor.
EBH: What are your favorite features in your home?
G: The favorite features in our home are the two-sided fireplace as well as everything that is needed to run a household on the main floor; as life progresses, that become more important to our lifestyle.
EBH: What was your building process and Eastbrook experience like?
G: The building process was smooth and very organized. No surprises and knowing how many houses they have built helped to reassure me that this is now their first rodeo! I would always ask them what ideas they have seen that are unique that might work well in your home. The support people they put on our path is awesome. Someone is always available to help guide and reassure you.
EBH: Do you have any tips or tricks for new homeowners?
G: Tips for new buyers would be to talk to current owners and ask what they like best as well as ask what they would do differently. Also, evaluate the true cost of doing something now vs later. I wish I would have done a few things during the building process as they will cost me more in the long run, so a good assessment of the cost is advisable.
EBH: Any other thoughts you would like to add?
G: Other thoughts – enjoy the process it’s not too stressful and really fun. There are so many options to create a style that reflects you and all the things you could only dream about in the past. Give yourself permission to step out a bit and create a space you are happy to come home to.
The other benefit is the incredible neighborhood. Ours is amazing- we have so many fantastic neighbors that are so fun! We hang out, we do things together, and look out for one another. It’s the neighborhood I used to dream about! I love it! I’m so grateful to be here.
