Partnering for Sustainability with Eastbrook Homes

At Eastbrook Homes, we’re committing to providing comfort and peace of mind to every homeowner who receives the keys to their Eastbrook dream home. Much of that peace of mind comes from knowing their home is healthy, safe, and built to last. Achieving this vision wouldn’t be possible without our dedicated partners who share our commitment to future sustainability. Today, we’re shining a spotlight on key collaborators—industry leaders in their own right—whose innovative practices and eco-friendly initiatives contribute significantly to the energy efficiency and environmental consciousness woven into every Eastbrook home.

Read on to explore modern sustainable construction practices that showcase how Eastbrook Homes, together with our esteemed partners, is shaping a future where homes are not just spaces to live but also beacons of responsible living.

GE Appliances

GE Appliances is committed to a holistic sustainability model that incorporates every step in the supply chain. Products manufactured according to their Energy Star standard perform at the same caliber as other top-tier home appliances while also adhering to strict energy and cost-saving standards. They also partner with the EPA’s Smart Way program to collect and analyze data related to supply chain logistics to help cut down on emissions produced during product transport. Lastly, when an appliance has reached the end of its lifecycle, GE Appliances works with regional partners to recycle the product, reducing waste and cutting manufacturing emissions.

Shaw Floors

Shaw Floors produces sustainable flooring aimed at having a positive impact not only on the environment but also on consumer health and well-being. All flooring materials are Cradle to Cradle certified, a standard that considers a product’s effect on the environment, contributions to a circular material economy, consumer safety, and supply chain equity. Flooring is also designed to be quiet under normal use, keeping noise levels under 75dB and contributing to better emotional health. Materials are hypoallergenic and easy to clean, ensuring better air quality and deterring the buildup of harmful molds and bacteria.

Moen

Moen manufactures faucets, sinks, showerheads, and other kitchen and bathroom fixtures. As such, they are committed to water conservation through their Mission Moen initiative. Their Smart Water Network offers a range of smart home appliances that make it easy for homeowners to reduce their water waste, and many of their products are made from recycled plastics harvested from ocean pollution. Launched on Earth Day in 2020, Mission Moen has already conserved 178 billion gallons of water to date, with the goal of conserving 1 trillion gallons and repurposing 2,000 tons of ocean plastic by 2030.

CertainTeed

CertainTeed is a leading manufacturer of building materials used in both interior and exterior home construction. In working against the construction industry’s historic contribution to carbon emissions, CertainTeed is on a mission to build a more sustainable built environment. By utilizing low-carbon construction materials and leveraging innovative manufacturing techniques, CertainTeed is working to decarbonize construction and promote sustainable building practices. They design their buildings with longevity in mind, using resiliency as a means to reduce the waste associated with demolition. Materials are also meant to be reused and recycled at the end of a building’s lifecycle as part of a circular resource economy.

Heatilator

Heatilator manufactures home fireplaces, and their sustainability initiatives largely target energy conservation and waste reduction. Heatilator plans to be zero waste and all their manufacturing plants by 2030, a goal that’s made possible by their recycling program and their ability to reclaim discarded materials for use in their manufacturing processes. The intermittent pilot ignition (IPI) feature on most of Heatilator’s fireplaces lights the pilot light at the same time as the rest of the fireplace, rather than leaving it perpetually on. This conserves fuel and energy and reduces fireplace emissions.

Wellborn Cabinets

Wellborn Cabinets is a certified Green Choice manufacturer, representing the central role their sustainability efforts play in their business philosophy. Wellborn Cabinets primarily focuses on reducing carbon emissions and conserving nonrenewable resources during the manufacturing process. The heat that both warms their manufacturing plant and is used in product manufacturing is generated largely from reclaimed wood shavings that would otherwise be wasted, saving on natural gas. Each year, this wood-fired heating method saves 300,000 cubic feet of natural gas, enough to heat over 5,000 homes.

JELD-WEN

JELD-WEN, a window and door manufacturer, leverages the latest technology to better understand the waste and emissions produced by their operational processes to learn how to have a more positive environmental impact. In 2022, JELD-WEN saw a 4% reduction in their greenhouse gas emissions and a 7% reduction in the amount of waste sent to landfills. In addition, nearly half of the wood used in manufacturing was acquired from certified sustainable forests, and recycled materials made up 10% of the raw materials used in production.

The work of our many sustainability partners comes together in every Eastbrook home to deliver energy efficiency and energy conservation that both reduce the cost to our homeowners and make a positive environmental impact. As our E3 Energy Efficiency initiative demonstrates, all parts of the home work in tandem to eliminate wasted energy while still providing all the amenities our homeowners expect. Best-in-class construction materials ensure proper insulation to conserve heat. Energy Star-certified appliances and programmable thermostats drive maximum energy efficiency with significantly reduced waste, and sustainably sourced construction materials limit your home’s environmental impact while also creating a healthier home environment for you and your family.
