Holiday Homeowner Highlight with Bob and Dari

For many of us, our home is the place where all the holiday magic happens – after all, there’s a reason the idea of being “home for the holidays” is so warming to the soul. In this Holiday Homeowner Highlight, Bob and Dari invite us back into their lives by sharing their story of finding new holiday traditions in retirement. This fun couple is excited to host their son and daughter-in-law at their home in the Macatawa Legends in Holland, MI, for the first time in three years. But that’s not all they look forward to! Bob and Dari plan to take advantage of the local Christmas attractions like downtown shopping and the “Enlighten” show at Meijer Gardens.

What community do you live in? 

The Villas

What has been your favorite thing about this community? 

The people are so friendly. Everyone looks out for each other – in a good way! Lol.

How do you celebrate the holidays in your home? 

Lots of good food, and lots of good company.

What is your holiday decoration inspiration? 

My husband and I collected Santas when we first got married, so I have those to display. Then my Christmas village began when a good friend of mine gave me the original snow Village Coca Cola building. My mother worked there for 48 years, so it has a huge sentimental meaning. Then a few friends added to my collections as they had no more space to display theirs. 

Are you hosting any holiday parties in your home? If so, what does that look like for you? 

I hope to have our sterett group over for the holidays. Some I have only met a few times, so I thought that would be a fun thing to do. Good holiday music, food and again, good company.

What does “home for the holidays” mean to you? 

This year, it is very special. My son and daughter-in-law are going to be able to be here for the first time in three years. They live in Georgia and have not been able to get up here. 

Are you planning on participating in any holiday event or activity in the greater community you’re now in? If so, which ones?

I want to go downtown of course for holiday shopping, and any Christmas craft fairs that I can find! I’m sure we’ll go to Windmill Gardens for the lights, and we plan to go to Meijer gardens for the “Enlighten” show. I’m still checking what else I can find, especially since my son and daughter-in-law will be here.

Any other memories or things that stand out to you about your Eastbrook Journey that you would like to share?

Many of the traditions we had for so many years have changed, as our lives have changed with retirement and our son living so far away. But we are finding ourselves just trying to create new ones, which will be okay! 🙂
