As the saying goes, if you don’t like the weather in Michigan, just wait 5 minutes.

There have been a few times recently when that seemed to be true, with snow falling one minute and warm weather melting it away an hour later. But as the weather becomes warmer and more predictable, it’s obvious that spring is finally here to stay.

Spring is often associated with cleaning, but there are a lot of other fun and important tasks that help make your Eastbrook Home ready for the summer. No matter what project you decide to tackle, it’s about time to get out the garden tools and strap on your toolbelt.

Here are some common Spring projects to consider:

1. Ensure your walkways are well-lit.

It’s easy to light outside pathways today. Solar lighting can be easily installed anywhere and used to mark the path from the car to the house, or to give pedestrians a clear path forward from the sidewalk.

There’s no need for electrical wiring and the labor that goes with it. Simply purchase a set of outdoor solar lights and stick them in the ground. They’ll do nothing to impact your electrical bill, but they will make it a lot easier to see where to walk at night.

2. Check for tripping hazards.

Broken branches, forgotten toys, and sometimes even trash can be uncovered by the melting snow. Once the weather warms up, it’s time to take a good look around the outside of your home for tripping hazards and other safety concerns.

Clear away anything that might cause people trip and fall. Look for loose rocks, broken blocks, and fallen branches on the ground for any potential safety concerns. Don’t forget to look up around eye level too. Branches may need to be trimmed back too, at adult and child’s eye-level.

3. It’s a good time to clean the grill.

As the days get a little longer, it won’t be long before you’ll have a backyard or patio full of guests. Don’t wait – get the grill uncovered and give it a good cleaning to clear away any cobwebs and unwanted debris. While you’re at it, why not fire it up and test it out?

This is also a great time to inspect your grill for damage and/or rusty parts. Rust can block passageways or cause leaks and other safety concerns, and most replacement parts are inexpensive. If your grill’s older parts won’t clean up, order new parts instead to keep your food tasting great and to eliminate hazardous conditions.

4. It’s a great time to start working on flower beds and landscaping too.

It might be a little too early to plant some of your favorite buds and bulbs, but you can at least start getting things ready. If you covered your landscaping for the winter, start by unwrapping your bushes and trees so they can drink in the sun.

Clear out dead leaves, old branches, and any other debris that might have made your landscaping it’s home. Trim any bushes or plants that have grown too big for their britches and decide where you want the mulch to start and stop. On the next sunny day, get out the gardening tools and start adding your favorite personal touches to your home’s exterior.
