Fifty Years – What an Adventure!

We have spent time this year celebrating 50 years as an organization, and are so grateful for the families, friends, employees and colleagues that have helped make this milestone a reality. Beyond the individuals, we have endless thanks for the neighborhoods and cities that we call home and the opportunity to help create thriving communities. Eastbrook Homes has a rich history starting with humble roots. Our longest-tenured staff has been with us since we only had five people on the team. Initially, we focused primarily in the Kentwood area and grew from there. Today we are rooted not just around Grand Rapids, but out to the lakeshore, the greater Lansing area, and even Auburn, Alabama.

Historical Perspective

During our 50th year, we have often felt amazed by what we have accomplished in that time, then realize how dramatically the world has changed around us as well. When our doors first opened, The Beatles were a global phenomenon and we had not yet even landed on the moon. We were just reaching the point of color television being in most homes, and the concept of reading a “blog” on the “internet” was not even part of science fiction. Here are a few more fun glimpses what else was happening when we first started:

• Average cost for gas: 33 cents/gallon
• Movie tickets: $1.25 (legend has it that popcorn was still $12.00 at that time)
• The first issue of Rolling Stone magazine was released
• Kurt Cobain, Faith Hill and Vanilla Ice were all born
• The first Super Bowl was played between the Chiefs and Packers

It will be interesting to see in another 50 years what cultural icons are born this year, what companies first opened their doors, and how expensive movie popcorn can get.

It is fun to look back on our history, and we love sharing photos and stories with you that help tell the tale of Eastbrook Homes. We say it again and again, but it truly would never have been possible without the gracious support of our community. With that, we repeat: thank you, thank you, thank you.
