It’s hard to believe, but Christmas is right around the corner. For everyone with shopping to do, there are only 23 days left until Christmas, so you better get online and get to work!
For this Holiday Season, we’re going to visit with some of our Eastbrook homeowners for a tour of their decorated homes to see what unique colors and styles best represent their holiday spirit.
The first stop on our Holiday Home Tour is at the Klug’s designer Birkshire model. Kayla Klug is great at designing homes, and she’s also known for her customized doormat company, The Minted Grove.
Read on to hear about Kayla’s gorgeous home, and at the end, you’ll find information about a special Holiday Homes Giveaway!
EBH: When did you move into your home?
KK: We moved into our new home in August of 2020.
EBH: What home plan do you have?
KK: After spending months visiting multiple Eastbrook sites throughout the state to walk through the various Eastbrook plans, we couldn’t resist moving forward with the spacious, open-floor, Birkshire Elevation B plan.
EBH: What does “home” mean to you and your family?
KK: For us, it’s a place that we can create memories, feel comfortable, and enjoy life. Home is a place our kids can be kids, where the dogs bark because “you’re in their territory”, and a place the parents can unwind with a glass of wine after a long day at work.
Over the past 10 years, Evan and I have moved between 3 states, landing us in 10 temporary home situations. We are raising two toddlers, another on the way, as well as two dogs, so we dove into this build knowing it would be an inviting and durable space to entertain for years to come.
EBH: What community are you in?
KK: Previously we lived in the Heritage Glen neighborhood in an Eastbrook Taylor plan home. As time went by and our family, as well as our business, grew, we decided that we wanted to live on a lot with more property. We ended up purchasing 4 acres of land and did an ‘offsite’ project.
EBH: Tell us about your business!
KK: The Minted Grove kicked-off in 2018 during my maternity leave. My husband constantly complained that my collection of craft items continued to collect dust. In an effort to prove him wrong, I became motivated and found a unique hobby to create, design, and sell personalized doormats at an affordable price.
Since its inception, The Minted Grove has sold over 6,000 customized doormats! In 2019 alone, we sent packages to all 50 states and 8 different countries. The success of this part-time business allowed us to build our new Eastbrook home and have future plans to build a production barn so I can give my husband back his garage space.
EBH: What is your decorating inspiration?
KK: It may be obvious by our exterior choices that we love the modern farmhouse look. I follow home interior Instagram accounts for inspiration. This has led to my love of mixing modern bohemian meets modern farmhouse.
I love adding little pops of color to an otherwise neutral space. We love the clean look which you will see that come to life in the kitchen. With that being said, you will see little eye-catching designs throughout the house such as the champagne bronze master bath and the mudroom patterned vinyl selection.
While making selections during the design process, it was very important to remind myself that our house is full of kids throughout the day. When we met with Megan in the design studio, she kept us in check with having style meet durability.
EBH: What are your favorite features in your home?
KK: We mainly fell in love with the Birkshire because of the open first-floor plan. Our favorite features include our 3-stall garage, Michigan room, main floor master, and I especially enjoy our soaking tub.
EBH: What are your family’s favorite Christmas traditions?
KK: One of our favorite Christmas traditions is putting up and adding to our ‘ugly’ ornament tree. We pick out a new ornament at the end of the season that may not be as loved as others. We’ve found some very unique ones! Outside of that, we enjoy decorating the house and holding a Christmas movie marathon.
EBH: How would you describe your Christmas decor style?
KK: I feel like my Christmas style changes every couple of years, which my husband hates 😉 For the past couple years we have been decorating in a clean, bright white style accented with lots of greenery. I have a feeling next year I will be gearing towards the modern all black and white theme with a lot of cedar greenery accents.
Thank you so much, Kayla, for a glimpse into your beautiful home. Thanks for the decorating tips too! It’s always fun to see the personal touches that make each living space into a unique representation of the people who call it Home.
