We are continuing our Holiday Home Tour series with an extra entry this week. Please join us as we meet Lincoln “L” Alexander and get a peek into his beautiful Town Square home.
Normally, we would be happy just to get a look at the holiday decorations and preparations each of our homeowners make, but this time around – we’re thrilled to introduce Lincoln himself, along with his home-based business, Flour House Cakes and Co.
Lincoln Alexander grew up in the kitchen, surrounded by baked goods and confections as his mother created custom cakes for her small business clientele. When she began to include him in the decorating process, Lincoln was hooked on the process and results.
At age 15, Lincoln began designing and creating custom cakes of his own for his mother’s business. As his talent grew, so did recognition and he began to make a name for himself.
Lincoln graduated from college with an honors degree in business, but his passion for baking never waned. While in school, he delivered more than fifty custom cakes to five states and three countries.
Today, Lincoln and his family live in the Eastbrook Community of Town Square in Rockford, MI, where he operates Flour House Cakes and Co., designing and creating custom cakes for weddings and other events.
Using only the finest locally sourced ingredients, Lincoln works from his own home kitchen. He follows a simple philosophy – good baking takes place in the comforts of the home. Since his creations have been featured on TV and in magazines, it looks like he has discovered a recipe for success.
Read on to meet Lincoln Alexander and to hear what he has to say about his Town Square home.
EBH: Why did you choose to live in Town Square?
LA: Prior to choosing Town Square, I lived in another Eastbrook Homes community for many years. Therefore, I was already aware of the quality craftmanship Eastbrook builds.
Town Square offered some of the most unique and customizable home designs that fit my living style. It was also the perfect location for me because it was close to several lakes, situated conveniently next to a local grocery store and is only minutes away from Grand Rapids.
EBH: What home plan did you build?
LA: I chose to customize the Mackinaw home plan.
EBH: Tell us about your baking business!
LA: Flour House Cakes & Co. is a home-based ‘cakery’ & design studio in Rockford. We specialize in custom couture wedding cakes and confections for major events. Our philosophy is simple, “good baking takes place in the comforts of the home.”
The home provides a comfortable place where intimate details can be shared about your special event over a cup of coffee or a glass of locally bottled wine. We treat every customer like family and our hope is that they will become lifelong patrons of our philosophy and business.
All of our confections are handmade with the finest ingredients that are often provided by local farmers and grocers. Since all of our cakes are custom made, we cannot and will not operate as a ‘cake mill’. We limit production of our creations so we can guarantee the utmost quality confection to leave our kitchen.
EBH: What do you love about the Rockford/Grand Rapids area?
LA: Rockford is a little oasis just outside of the bustling city of Grand Rapids. Both cities have a wealth of adventure to explore! I love Rockford for its small-town feel and natural scenery. One of my favorites spots is the “Dam” downtown. My family and I have taken many summer strolls around the area.
The lakes that surround my community are simply beautiful. Grand Rapids provides the energy that inspires my creativity as an artist. The magnificent cultural events and outdoor live concerts at the Frederick Meijer Gardens are just a few of the things that makes the city golden!
EBH: What features did you include in your home?
LA: Some of the most notable features I chose to add to my home were:
- Add on Command Center used for my cake studio
- Added a wood and glass command center door
- All hardwood flooring (main level)
- Upgraded kitchen with and cabinetry
- Wood and rod iron staircase banister
- Customized wall nook and expanded dining room entry walls
- Added a floor to ceiling stoned fireplace
