Baby, It’s Cold Outside! Time to Check your Humidifier
Baby, It’s Cold Outside! After a short reprieve, winter came back to West Michigan and brought some seriously cold weather along with the snow.
Eastbrook Homes would like to remind you to keep an eye on the humidity levels in your home during colder winter weather. When the temperature drops, condensation can form on the inside of your windows and damage woodwork as water pools on your woodwork.
Every Eastbrook Home includes a humidifier connected to the heating system, which provides moisture to the air when the heat creates a dry environment inside. The moisture helps keep hardwood flooring and trim in your new home from shrinking, and makes the air more comfortable.
The hardwood flooring industry recommends a humidity level of 40 percent. However, condensation can form when the outside temperature approaches 30 degrees, so as the weather gets colder be sure to adjust your humidity levels down. In extreme cold, you may need to drop all the way down to 10 percent, but try 35 percent to start.
Condensation damage is not covered by your warranty so it’s important to monitor the humidity level in your home and adjust it as necessary. When the weather turns colder, be sure to check for condensation on the glass and clean up any standing water – don’t let it accumulate.
As the temperatures rise again, please remember to adjust your humidifier back to 35-40 percent to protect your woodwork.
